What's happening to God?

God seems to not play as big of a part as he did in older generations. More and more I'm seeing peers claiming to be "Atheist" or "Agnostic". Even some of my closest friends who were raised in a religious home and went to a private christian school now make these claims. There's a lot of videos out there and theorists making claims about God's existence but that's always been out there and it always will be. Even if there are some questions about his existence, there's been a lot of weird things happening lately. "Faith"... "Hope" things Obama ran on in his campaign are things we're supposed to have in God. I'm not trying to say Obama wants to replace God but... really? Are we forgetting or is this just a phase in my 18-26 aged peers I'm noticing?
